Established in the spring of 1979, St. Croix AARP Chapter #3167 is a volunteer service organization committed to improving the quality of Life for our island's golden agers and for their caregivers. Our Chapter is a resource for fun-loving, forward-thinking, solution-oriented leaders and givers of all ages to fellowship and find ways to fulfill the vision of AARP's Founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus to be "service centers... [for those] who favor the goals of individual growth and service to self, to fellow members, and to the community in general." In-line with the original intent of Dr. Andrus, we see our Chapter as a vehicle to "implement a variety of programs and projects, mobilize volunteers, and support the activities of other organizations with compatible philosophies and goals." (Chapter Handbook, Section 1)
While AARP National and VI offices promote legislative advocacy, consumer savings, fitness and wellness programs, financial tools and insurance products, St. Croix AARP Chapter #3167 focuses on providing prayer, calls, visits, gardening, and light labor to those in need due to mobility or other challenges as well as Fun, Facts, Fellowship and Fortitude on 2nd Saturdays in September through June. Monthly meetings are held to empower members and guests to be well-positioned in their spheres of influence to act as Good Samaritans. Through moments of solidarity, mentoring, breathing and stretching, sharing good reports, and completing group service projects, meeting attendees comment that they feel refreshed and recharged after the time well-spent together.
